If you're like me, and you're doing a super broad degree like BSc Geography, it can be pretty tough to decide what you want to do after you graduate because there are just too many choices, unlike, say physiotherapy - you know you're going to be a physiotherapist afterwards.
I'm in my second year now, and I've been spending the past few months developing myself professionally, and researching what's out there - including signing up to newsletters, attending events, that sort of thing (sounds very boring).
Sometimes, you attend something online, or in person, and you're so glad you went, and you feel like you really benefitted from it. But sometimes, you think, "God, this is so dull, I'm wasting my time." This happened to me last week - it was a three-hour webinar on entomology, but I won't go into specifics.
But then I thought, okay, how do I turn this into a positive experience?
So, it's boring, what are you going to do? If it's online, you can leave. That's fine! I did it. I felt guilty at first, but then I realised that it took me just ten minutes to find out that I absolutely don't want to go into this field.
And that's a positive thing.
By process of elimination, I have now ticked something off the massive spectrum that is geography futures, and my careers research will be just a little bit easier. On top of that, I had a free two hours and fifty minutes to work on other things that I otherwise wouldn't have had time for.
So, don't avoid things you know nothing about when it comes to research and attending webinars (I keep referencing webinars because they are becoming so relevant since COVID-19).
Do your research, then you can confidently decide how you feel about it. It's working well for me so far!

Hey Anoushka, it is really pleasing to read that is definitely helping to build my confidence.
